India Inducts Homegrown Diving Vessel into Naval Fleet

(MENAFN) India has integrated a domestically manufactured diving support vessel into its maritime forces.

On Tuesday, the Indian Navy commissioned the DSC A20, the inaugural unit of the indigenously engineered and built Diving Support Craft (DSC) platform, designed to bolster diving and subsurface operations in nearshore waters.

"DSC A20 is the lead ship in a series of five Diving Support Craft being built by Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL), Kolkata," the Indian Defense Ministry said in a statement. "Purpose-built for a wide spectrum of diving and underwater missions in coastal waters, the vessel is equipped with advanced, state-of-the-art diving systems that meet the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency."

Officials anticipate the craft will serve as a crucial operational resource within the Indian Navy's arsenal.

The DSC A20's commissioning aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Make in India' initiative.

The platform exemplifies "seamless collaboration between the Indian Navy, the indigenous shipbuilding industry, and national research organizations in delivering specialized, technologically advanced vessels," the Defense Ministry added in the statement.

India has established ambitious objectives to expand its naval armada beyond 200 warships and submarines by 2035, potentially reaching 230 vessels by 2037.

New Delhi has simultaneously encouraged defense contractors from allied nations to forge partnerships with Indian arms producers to strengthen its 'Make in India' strategy.

The Indian Navy commissioned INS Mahe, an anti-submarine shallow-water ship for coastal patrols, in November.

Last week, India and Brazil finalized an agreement for joint efforts on maintenance of Scorpene submarines and additional vessels.

Presently, 54 ships remain under construction across Indian shipyards. The Indian Navy anticipates full operational deployment of all vessels by 2030.
