China Post Unveils Year of the Horse Stamps

(MENAFN) On Monday, China Post introduced a new set of commemorative stamps to mark the forthcoming Year of the Horse, igniting widespread enthusiasm among stamp collectors.

Despite the cold weather, long lines began forming outside post offices in Beijing as early as Sunday afternoon.

By 8 a.m. Monday, when sales officially opened, collectors—ranging from veteran philatelists to younger hobbyists wrapped in heavy coats—were already waiting along the streets.

The Year of the Horse will commence on February 17, 2026, according to the lunar calendar.

This year’s festivities carry additional cultural significance following the 2024 recognition of the Spring Festival as part of the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, a milestone that has boosted public interest in traditional customs.

The stamp set includes two designs with a combined face value of 2.40 yuan (around 34 U.S. cents).

One features a red horse stepping on clouds, symbolizing steady social and economic progress and reflecting aspirations tied to the upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030).

The other depicts three horses galloping together amid auspicious motifs, representing unity and collective effort toward building a modern socialist nation and advancing national rejuvenation.

In Chinese tradition, the horse is a powerful emblem of vitality, resilience, and achievement. Closely linked to the saying "Ma Dao Cheng Gong"—meaning "instant success upon the arrival of the horse"—it embodies determination and swift advancement. Revered for centuries for its role in transport and prosperity, the horse remains a beloved zodiac sign, seen as a herald of energy and progress for the new year.
