US Warship Intercepts Oil Tanker Heading to Iranian Port

(MENAFN) A United States Navy destroyer intercepted a crude oil tanker attempting to reach an Iranian port over the weekend, US Central Command (CENTCOM) announced Monday, marking the latest enforcement action under Washington's active naval blockade.

"Guided-missile destroyer USS Rafael Peralta (DDG 115) enforces the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports against M/T Stream after it attempted to sail to an Iranian port," CENTCOM said in a post on X.

CENTCOM confirmed the interception took place Sunday but offered no additional details regarding the vessel's location at the time or the intelligence basis for determining its intended destination. Ship-tracking data listed on the Marine Tracker website identifies the M/T Stream as a crude oil tanker.

No further information on the outcome of the interdiction or the tanker's current status has been released by authorities.
